Class Descriptions

HULA & TAHITIAN

Kinderhula (Ages 3-4):
This class is specifically designed for our young children interested in Hawaiian dance. This 45-minute class will provide and introduction to rhythm combined with hula basics and songs.

Hula/Tahitian(Ages 5 -Adult):
The beauty and gracefulness of the Hula and the energetic rhythms of Tahiti are offered in this combination class. Students will learn Hula and Tahitian basics and terminology.  Songs and dances of Hawaii and Tahiti will also be taught, along with traditional costume making and crafts, in order for students to have a better understanding of the Polynesian culture.

HIP HOP

Hip Hop Kidz (Ages 5-7):

Hip-Hop (Ages 7-18):
Hip Hop is a blend of today’s high-energy “street style” movement.  This energetic and fun class incorporates the newest moves as seen in popular music videos. Hip Hop starts with a total body warm-up that stretches and tones, followed by a choreographed routine that will push your dancing to the next level!

MUSICAL THEATER / VOCAL

Musical Theatre:
This upbeat class teaches Broadway-style choreography and show-stopping stage presence, with a focus on acting and learning song-and-dance numbers from a wide variety of musical productions, past and present. This class will expose students to acting and improvisational exercises, proper vocal techniques and basic dance movements.  Jazz or Ballet classes are recommended for students to take alongside Musical Theatre, to fully enhance your child’s experience.

Voice:
Private vocal classes are aimed to build confidence for singing in public, whether it’s for a concert, an audition, or just having fun on the karaoke machine. Students will learn proper vocal and breathing techniques, as well as a various repertoire of songs from different genres of music.

BALLET & TAP / BALLET

Ballet
Students will be introduced to basic ballet fundamentals, using the R.A.D and Vaganova techniques, including body alignment, vocabulary, and basic positions of the feet & arms. Emphasis will be placed on proper body placement, quality of movement and artistry, with classes tailored to suite the age and ability of the student.

Ballet + Tap Combo

This combination class introduces young children to basic creative dance movement and beginning tap. Basic rhythm and tap choreography, as well as the foundations of ballet, will be taught. This fun and energetic class will also begin to develop social skills and self esteem for even the youngest performer.

Tap
Tap class will provide students with a strong understanding of basic tap foundation, terminology, timing and rhythm. An emphasis will be placed on explanation of terminology, execution of basic steps through more challenging rhythms, precise tap sounds, improvisational techniques, coordination, syncopation and technical execution.

DANCE CARDIO

A great class for anyone who’s been looking for a way to work out, stay fit, and loves to dance. Combines a fun cardio workout incorporating different dance moves from Hip Hop to Urban to Jazz. This class is designed for all levels of fitness.

TAHITIAN CARDIO

This energetic hybrid dance and fitness class is a fun way to burn calories using basic Tahitian dance movements and techniques. This dance workout will help build cardiovascular and muscle strength as well as develop your core. No experience is required as this class is designed for all fitness levels, whether you are new to the program or an experienced hip shaker.

JAZZ

Jazz (Ages 7-18)
Students will learn a variety of jazz styles from classic to contemporary. Classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality with an emphasis on proper execution of jazz isolations, rhythms and style performed to both lyrical and contemporary music.

ROCK BAND

ROCK OF CREATION:  Introduction to Rock Band

No, not that Rock Band, we already know you’re a 10-star super-expert.  Throw out your controllers and join SOC music instructor Gerald as he introduces you to the ins and outs and ups and downs of playing, rehearsing, and performing in a rock band with actual musical instruments.

Students will get hands-on instruction on all instruments of the standard rock band rhythm section (electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, and keyboard [time permitting]) in a relelaxed setting.  Relevant topics such as music theory, history, and appreciation will be presented to reinforce key rock band concepts.   The course will culminate with a performance on a to-be-determined stage.
Prerequisites: Any amount of musical experience (instrumental, vocal, or theory) is preferred but not required; pre-coursework and/or private lessons may be recommended.  Owning your own rhythm section instrument (electric guitar or bass guitar) is a plus.  A willingness to learn and rock and a can-do attitude are essential.
