Te Pura O Te Rahura’a – Polynesian Dance Troupe
Te Pura O Te Rahura’a is Spark of Creation Studio’s award winning Polynesian dance troupe, under the direction of Marilou Ubaldo Lafon, based in South San Francisco, California. We offer classes both for the recreational and the competitive dancer with students ranging as young as 3 years old to adults. We participate in numerous group and solo competitions throughout the Bay Area and Hawaii, most recently being awarded the overall professional group in the 2010 Tahiti Fete competition held in San Jose, California, the largest Tahitian dance competition outside of Tahiti. Students in the advanced and intermediate classes are given the opportunity to exhibit their talents at our annual Polynesian Showcase, which also helps raise funds for the students’ performance costs. We perform in various community events and festivals year round, most notably for the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco Aloha Festival. Our goal is to share and encourage the love and appreciation of the Polynesian culture and to continue to enrich our experiences and deepen our knowledge by learning from well known and accomplished hula and Tahitian directors, dancers and artists. While staying faithful to the traditional dances we are taught, our original choreography fuses traditional and contemporary elements that produces a style all our own.
